Case Study: Grinding the Sides of Cermet-Tipped Saw Blades for Iron Cutting Using Diamond Grinding Wheels

Saw blades designed for cutting iron with power tools are becoming increasingly widespread, replacing conventional cutting blades. 

Compared to standard blades, they offer a more eco-friendly cutting environment and higher efficiency; furthermore, the resulting iron filings can be sold as scrap. 

These advantages have made these iron-cutting blades increasingly popular among users.


Cermet tips are more difficult to grind than carbide tips. 

To address the challenge of grinding these cermet tips, we have developed a specialized diamond grinding wheel; 

the specific operating parameters are as follows:

Equipment: Hande C150 Side-Tooth Grinding Machine


Grinding Wheel Specifications: 100×20×7×4.2×25T; 180JT-06B04


Cooling: Water-based coolant


Workpiece Dimensions: 355mm diameter, 66 teeth; tooth length 6mm, tooth thickness 2.6mm


Workpiece Material: Cermet saw tips (domestic manufacturer)


Feed Speed: Rough grinding at 5mm/s (2 passes, removing 0.06mm);


Finish grinding at 2mm/s (grinding pass removing 0.03mm, followed by return stroke)


Grinding Time: 1,000 seconds per saw blade


Dressing Frequency: Compensation of 1μm per 1,000 teeth
